Mr. Jonathan Belmont joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District in February 2018 and currently serves as the Chief of Staff. He hails from Barrington, Rhode Island, where he began his military career in 1994 by enlisting in the Army National Guard. He was selected to attend West Point in 1995. After graduating in 1999 and commissioning into the Aviation branch, then - 2nd Lieutenant Belmont selected the AH-64D Apache Longbow as his airframe. His operational assignments included service in the 101st Airborne Division as a Platoon Leader, Liaison Officer, and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer; in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Unit Maintenance Company Commander and Brigade Assistant Operations Officer; and in the 10th Mountain Division as a Combat Advisor Team Chief, Brigade Aviation Officer, Intermediate Maintenance Company Commander, and Close-Quarters Combat Instructor. He deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-2004 and in 2006-2007; he also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013. His two support assignments were at West Point as the Northeast Regional Commander for the Directorate of Admissions and as an instructor in the Department of Systems Engineering. After retiring from Active Duty in 2016 at the rank of Major, Mr. Belmont served as the Senior Project Manager for Perry Construction Management, working with one of the firm’s primary food service clients on several repair, maintenance, and upgrade projects at their production and packaging plants. He then returned to West Point’s Department of Systems Engineering as an Army Civilian to teach Project Management, Engineering Economics, and the Fundamentals of Systems Engineering and Design. Mr. Belmont holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University. He is also an Army Command and General Staff College graduate, a certified Project Management Professional, and an Eagle Scout. Mr. Belmont is a Senior Army Aviator who has logged over 1,000 flight hours, with more than 300 of them in combat. His recognitions include multiple Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, and Air Medals; the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Order of St. Michael; as well as several other awards and decorations.
