What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Job Title Engineer 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Contribute to a dynamic team of facility engineering professionals that provide engineering solutions across a wide variety of buildings at one of the most important research facilities in the world. Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic senior-level engineer with an interest in building systems and infrastructure to work in the Engineering Services – Engineering Project Delivery (ES-EPD) group. This posting is for multiple Design Engineering positions within the following disciplines: Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Mechanical, Pressure Safety, Welding, Fire Protection, Civil, and Structural.
Engineer 3 ($103,500—$172,800)
The Engineering role supports a business function that implements the framework for the disciplined execution of effective engineering at LANL through application of national consensus codes and standards, recognized quality standards, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, Laboratory requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations. Integrates with other engineering disciplines, document control, safety basis, operations, maintenance, project management, or any other organization that needs engineering input to accomplish LANL deliverables. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of engineering deliverables. Utilizes engineering technology to accomplish work and continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.
Engineer 4 ($125,200—$210,600)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will be considered a Senior Design Engineer. Accordingly, you will be expected to lead all activities associated at the Engineer 3 level. In addition, you may serve as a team lead responsible for the mentoring of junior staff; be assigned moderate to complex assignments; and be able to work independently and as part of the a team; and utilizes engineering technology to accomplish work and continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Expert knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices, including engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems.
Expert knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies.
Expert knowledge of project and process engineering practices.
Skilled in obtaining, evaluating and comparing equipment selections from manufacturer’s representatives.
Highly skilled in developing Contract Documents consisting of drawings and specifications to define changes to buildings and infrastructure.
Proven experience in effectively communicating engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
Highly proficient in accomplishing work in accordance with the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) and applicable Federal, State, and Laboratory codes and standards.
Proven experience in representing the design agency through interface and coordination with other engineering disciplines and the customer’s representative during design and construction.
Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment as a member of a multi-discipline team of engineers and designers.
Proven ability to mentor junior-level design engineers to perform the requirements described above.
Additional Job Requirements for Design Engineer 4:A
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Broad knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
Demonstrated leadership experience involving diverse tasks, teams, and organizations.
Education/Experience at lower level: Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 6 years of relevant experience implementing the requirements described above.
Education/Experience at higher level: Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 12 years of relevant experience implementing the requirements described above.
Professional Engineering License.
Ability to produce designs utilizing AutoCAD tools and work processes.
