What You Will Do
The Nuclear Materials Science Group (MST-16) is seeking candidates for a Manufacturing Manager 3 position. The duties of a successful MM3 include, but are not limited to:
Report to the MST-16 Group Leader with regular updates and assist in the oversight of manufacturing and R&D activities for multidisciplinary production and scientific projects involving actinide materials
Enable team execution of work that supports programmatic milestones and deliverables, primarily within the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Radiological Laboratory/Utility/Office Building (RLUOB) and other radiological facilities in which MST-16 has operations.
Serve as the First Line Manager and Operation Responsible Supervisor to oversee the daily activities of scientists, engineers, technologists, technicians, and skilled support employees within a team
Ensure compliant execution of work according to a master production schedule within a Nuclear Facility through the support of scheduling tools such as WIPS, OPS, MRP, and P6.
Engage in work package development, budget oversight and management, resource management, and strategic objective planning in support of group deliverables and milestones
Engage with key team stakeholders and operational partners such as: Group Management, MST-16 Support Staff, Program Office personnel, Safety Basis Personnel, Facilities Personnel, Maintenance Support Staff, and external Group and Division partners or customers.
Facilitate operational stand ups and work authorizations in response to facility pauses or work stoppages.
Ensure adherence to Conduct of Operations through: worker qualification and authorization reviews; verification that administrative and operating procedures are current, understood and adhered to before releasing work; and compliance with nuclear facility requirements.
Work with Group Management and Support Staff to determine team workflow priorities, while managing time effectively to deal with changing priorities.
Demonstrate effective teamwork in accomplishing objectives, including mentoring and motivating peers.
Identifying and implementing continuous process improvement initiatives to maintain an agile and resilient workforce.
Promote and exhibit positive behavioral values through personal example, personnel conflict management, and team culture development.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated record of successful technical leadership and proven ability in supervising, resolving conflicts, administering discipline, mentoring, motivating employees, and developing personnel.
Knowledge of materials characterization, metallography, or related aspects of materials science and engineering.
Demonstrated experience in coordinating work activities in a highly regulated environment and tracking/reporting progress on a regular cadence.
Thorough knowledge of and experience performing work in a manufacturing environment and executing work in compliance with facility requirements, conduct of operations, conduct of engineering, and conduct of maintenance standards.
Demonstrated experience working with confidential personnel information, confidential or proprietary information, classified documents or sensitive information.
Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.
Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which usually requires US citizenship.
Education/Experience: Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience with 4 years of Nuclear experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Demonstrated experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team of technicians, engineers, generators and professional staﬀ.
Demonstrated experience of work execution in compliance with PF-4 facility requirements, glovebox work, and/or experience with fissionable or hazardous material management.
Knowledgeable in Integrated Work Management (IWM) and integrated safety and security management (ISSM) procedures.
Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
In Depth knowledge of MST-16 and its programs, such as metallography.
Active Q Clearance and HRP
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Nuclear Materials Science (MST-16) is an international leader in plutonium science and engineering and supports a variety of fundamental to applied programs, including Plutonium Sustainment, Pit Surveillance, the Science Program, Life Extension Programs, Advanced Certification, various global security programs, and Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) projects. MST-16 maintains a multidisciplinary expertise in actinide materials science and engages in areas important to Laboratory missions, including material characterization, phase stability, mechanical and dynamic properties, aging, electronic structure, corrosion, and surface science. Our work takes place in the Plutonium Facility (PF-4), the Radiological Laboratory/Utility/Office Building (RLUOB), the Target Fabrication Facility (TFF), and numerous other facilities at LANL and across the country.
