What You Will Do
Reporting to the Actinide Material Processing & Power (AMPP) Division Leader, the Deputy Division Leader (DDL) for Space and Stockpile Manufacturing provides scientific, technical, and operational leadership to the Division related to Plutonium-238 manufacturing and product characterization. The DDL will function as a key part of the division management team that has the responsibilities for proper work authorization, quality assurance practices, human resource management, recruiting, and continuing development of division capabilities. The DDL will be expected to take a significant role in the strategic planning efforts for the division, as well as the broader nuclear engineering capability across the Laboratory.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Providing effective leadership to enable the workforce to succeed in division milestones and deliverables.
Maintaining and strengthening the division's scientific and technical base by participating in the development and programmatic direction for the division.
Working with the division leader, group leaders and program managers to ensure effective line and program planning and integration.
Identifying and acting on opportunities to influence direction, policy and vision, both internal and external to the organization.
Determining and promoting long-range goals to ensure that the division performs at the highest standards relevant to national security.
Maintaining a positive work environment and mentoring and developing personnel.
Recruiting and retaining critical skills in the workforce.
Supporting diversity, affirmative action, ES&H, security, and community relations.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Expertise: Demonstrated accomplishments and expertise in one or more of the division’s core capabilities, or a closely related scientific or engineering field. Expert knowledge of safety and security, environmental and quality regulatory requirements needed to manage work in a nuclear and/or high explosives facility.
Leadership : Successful experience in leading a management team in organizational strategic planning initiatives to include establishing, monitoring, and reporting on performance metrics. Demonstrated experience leading a multidisciplinary group of scientists, engineers, technicians, students and professional staff in a technical environment. Demonstrated excellence in the leadership and management of technical projects and staff, that includes a record of successful teamwork and consensus building within and across organizational boundaries.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated knowledge and proven ability in problem solving and conflict resolution.
Communication: Ensures daily open communication with workers that promotes an environment where workers feel comfortable bringing concerns forth.
Business and Development: Demonstrated experience leading business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement, and other related business activities. Proven ability to identify, secure and lead programs, obtain and allocate resources and deliver within scope, schedule and budget. Demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence, environment, health and safety, security, diversity, and employee development. Demonstrated experience leading business operations to include financial, human resources, procurement, and other related business activities.

DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related science, and 4 years nuclear experience. Education or experience that is job related may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may fulfill 3 of the 4 years of nuclear experience on a one-for-one time basis.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Security: Active DOE Q-Clearance and HRP certification

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
